Big small boy

Well I have realized that now, Josh has became a big small boy. Why do I say that? He has his own way of system and wants to do things on his own.

For example, for the stroller, before he wants to push, he would just wants nothing to be hanging on the handles of the stroller. So we need to remove them. Otherwise he will be feeling quite uncomfortable about it.

Also at night, he doesn't want me to put on diapers for him. And he also don't want me to switch on the air con. And I have to do the otherwise when he is sound asleep. If I were to happen to do one of the activities when he is awake, he would want me to switch off immediately.

He is aware of his surrounding stuff too. He would remember well and clearly where he saw the spider, lizard or beetle when he recalls it. And would
tell us. Amazing boy with good memory.

He loves to play at the playground nowadays and we would spend around 30 minutes with him. And the slide, he would want me to participate with him! Really find that he loves to incorporate us in the fun, be it Eve, his grandma or me.

After second day of school for Josh, he has began to be more vocal as well as to link people he knows, such as me, Eve, Kate. And he even mentioned about 'market'.

Even more now, we have to watch how we speak as well as what we speak because he will learn and show too.

In school, his height is around the same as most of the children, which is a good thing.

Well today is his first stepping stone. He attends his first lesson at Zion Bible Kindergarten. Actually, I personally did not attend any play group. But we believe that it will be a good opportunity for him to learn and also to grow by interacting with the children of his age.

He is quite clingy to us because of the place is being foreign to him. Imagine that you are also in a new workplace or school, definitely will also experience the same thing too. So we have to be patient with him.

I'm proud of him as he is able to perform stuffs that he has learnt before. Things such as cutting the toy fruits, cooking, ironing, constructing of the railway tracks and also to read alphabets aloud! That's very good.

Now we have to keep emphasizing to him that his teacher is 'Miss Tan' and whatever stuff or issues, just ask her.

His appetite was also very good! He ate six grapes and two pieces of bread with peanut butter! Amazing.. I was there to accompany him.

As Josh is growing up and turning 20 months in 2 days time (!!!), I want to be more active in teaching and guiding him, hence I have decided to commit myself to plan and do activities with him that can help him to learn and play.

Currently I am reading up The Everything Toddler Activities Book: Games And Projects That Entertain And Educate (Everything Kids Series) by Joni Levine to get ideas on what to do together.

On the second day of Chinese New year, we went to quite alot of places and we started off quite early! Can't believe it!! Haa... it is quite an achievement for me...somemore I'm just a little boy... :)

First place is that we went to my dad's granny's place at AMK. And we took bus and it was so enjoyable and we took pictures too... :)

We went to Istana as it is opened up for the public and I tell you, ALL of us there enjoyed ourselves so much... And my parents ate so many mandarin oranges and the crowd is amazing. And yes, Singapore is WARM!... Super warm... and we took so many pictures and it is my first time there...woohoo. And it is NOON time... what a time to choose, Dad!

Well some little facts, I do not really like to wear tight head caps as I find that it is quite tight for me... Ha. And I actually love to see people eat and especially DRINK water...seriously... one day, I really want to follow my grandmother and drink from a bottle direct, without anyone feeding! Yea...

Later, we went to Tanah Merah's NSRCC to celebrate my fellow cousin's Rachel's birthday... And we had swimming again. I love swimming and my mum straightaway borrowed the swimming costume from my aunt Rui and we swam together as a family!!

Well, supposedly I should wear swimming trunks...but I only wore my shorts, normal shorts! Ha... :) No one cares though...haa...

Well everyone, this is my first time having my Chinese New Year celebrations and collecting hongbaos is really very exciting. I would stretch out my hand to receive the red packet, and later, place it inside my mouth! Ha.. :)

I went with my parents to my paternal grandparents and then we went to my maternal side. Midway, went to my Dover where I can get to see my new cousins whom I have never seen before too! Ha... And they are staying just beside NUS, probably the university that I will be studying. Same like my father...

And I tell you, the weather is so warm that my parents have to change me up to my polka-dot shirt and woo, I certainly feel so much better after that... :)

Can feel that I will receive more and more hongbaos in the coming years!!!

Well on 1st feb, we brought my family and Eve's mom to Hainan! And it is the first time that Josh took the train and somemore with us!! We are very thankful that he has been a very cooperative boy as nothing happen when he is on the aeroplane.

Woohoo. And the good thing is that all of us enjoyed the trip there as we shopped and ate there. Also, the hotel was expense paid for by my boss! :) Love the trip.

Really find that it is certainly of different feeling to bring your child up for overseas trip!! :) The enjoyment is priceless!! :)

Yesterday was a day to remember!

Well, I was lying on the bed and then, thud!!

Guess what? I was found seated on the floor and I literally fell from the bed! HA! I gave the normal stunned look and my dad came over and hugged me up to the bed again.

Amazingly, I was feeling calm and good. :)

Lesson: One pillow as the wall on the bed is not enough, as I fell together with the pillow. Luckily my grandmother placed a bed as a cushion on the wall. Otherwise, my face will actually be bruised by the wall! Seriously!!

I'm beginning to feel that I love swimming so much!

This morning went with my parents early at 9am to swim at Bishan swimming complex and I tell you, even though the water is cool, I am not afraid! I find it relaxing!

I even like to piggy back behind my dad as he crawl in the baby pool and I just leeched on him!! Ha.. I laughed in the pool too!!

Really looking forward for my parents to bring me to the pool for morning exercise and also to relax!!

PS: I always feel very hungry after a swim, don't really know why! Ha..

Wow...so long never blog about myself already.

Now its 2010 and I have spent my first christmas with my Dad and mom... so happy.

The picture on your left is my paternal grandmother and we are both born in the year of ox! Amazing right??? And she is so happy carrying me when she is in my Bishan apartment... :)

The picture on your right is taken at Din Tai Feng restaurant... whereby my parents tried to let me sit on the baby chair. I love it!! I find that I can just put my leg up and sit so comfortably!

My grandfather took pictures of me and certainly, I have grown bigger and I can lift up my head steadily already.

Hi Everyone

Josh is now 7.300kg and this is very amazing... he is in the 90% percentile.
His height is 63.5cm... he is in the 75% percentile.
His head size circumference is 42cm... he is also in the 75% percentile.

I have learnt quite a bit in yesterday's visit to Toa Payoh Polyclinic.

Apparently, most babies lies in the 50-75% percentile... and for overweight babies, theirs is 97% and for underweight is 3%. So for Josh, he is relatively very good! Ha...

We did the 6-in-1 jab application for him yesterday and he took the first dose of the vaccination yesterday. And when he got back home, he had fever, which is a normal sign after a vaccination.

Eve and I were quite shocked about this fact about vaccination. Apparently there is a group of people who are against vaccination because they feel that it is part of the cause of autism amongst children. Their rationale is that the baby's immunization level is not built up properly and germs are vaccinated into them. To some, they feel it may lower the immune system level of babies. We are not sure either because on the other hand, around 13million babies are affected to diseases due to not having vaccination. But they are at underdeveloped countries actually. So in Singapore, it is less likely.

We have discussed that in the past, we actually didn't have this 5-in-1 or 6-in-1 jab and yet, most of us are healthy. Now, they incorporate Hep B jab in the package. This is actually given to us when we are in primary 6. Actually, I do not know the actual rational of it, but why can't we provide them at Primary 6? Hmm.. we have been asking some parents and they just took what is given in the health booklet, without asking much questions.

Well, we have already given Josh the jab. Hope that everything will be fine!

Hi!

Recently, after dinner, Eve and I would take strolls to our parents in-law place just to show Josh the night surrounding and we just feel that he is learning quite a bit here and there...

For example, exposing to images of moon (wonder he can see that far), pointing him to buses, taxis, and even streetlights and bus stops. He would look around and drool at the same time too.

Quite a few times, he would sleep in my arms on the way to or fro from my in-law's place.

More mini-trips to come..

Potty Training!

Every morning, after I bathe him, I will try to place Josh on his potty! And do the 'ng-ng' sounds so as to help him in his passing motion.

And indeed! It worked!!! He passed motion twice together with one time of urination!

This is a sense of fulfilment... and this comes with practice. Many a times, we saw the signs that he was discomfort and placed him on his potty, but he didn't want to pass motion. He cried. But in other instances, we are correct! We managed to catch the moment...

We are learning and Josh is learning too!

Everyday is a learning experience for us actually.

Wow! Josh has gained weight! Ha.. We are so amazed that everyday, Josh is growing and growing. Probably the volume of breast milk has increased these few days.

Actually, I want to be thankful that my wife is able to supply continuous supply of breast milk to Josh, ever since he was born. And from the books, it was written that breast milk provides the best nutrition and food for the baby. And as time goes by, the amount and type of nutrition supplied to the baby will also change and also the volume. This is so amazing.

For formula milk, we are not so towards it because we have read that it is actually considered as 'heaty' for the baby and he needs to drink water after feeding. Not only that, it was also stated that formula milk contains artificial sugar. My my.

Tummy Time

Well Well.. We are teaching Josh how to actually crawl by flipping him over, on his fours.

What we have learnt is that for the first 2-3 months, it is crucial for babies to actually use his abdominals, eg by lying down such that he can build his neck muscles. Amazing right?

Apparently, he loves to be in this position and he smiles alot too! Ha...

We do this exercise around twice a day. (once after bath, another in the evening). Yea!

Well today I'm very happy. In fact, I am gaining weight everyday.. Now my weight is 5.325kg. Wow right? More weight to be added! Ha... Insurance ------------- Earlier this week, my dad actually bought for me 2 insurance plans for me! It goes like this: Investment - Linked plan... With $100,000 coverage against death, disability and critical illness With $100,000 coverage against accident And with $1,000 of medical reimbursement... It is actually served more of an education plan for myself, so that I have a lump sum for my school days eg: university. Yup! Second plan is full hospital coverage. So as of now, I'm covered of the basic insurance... Thanks Dad!

Well, today, I am unable to sleep from 2pm to 7pm. I really do not know why actually. I urinated and passed motion on my dad once today and after being breastfed by my mum A LOT OF TIMES, my eyes are still wide awake.

I really have no idea why... but after that, from 8 to 11pm, I slept soundly... :)

Hi!! Today, I went to check up with Polyclinic again. And my WEIGHT is..... 4.125kg! Amazing?? I literally gained 1 kg within 3 weeks. I would like to thank my mum for all of her breast milk, which is delicious and sweet. :) My jaundice level is 153... How come not below 100!??! I must sleep more...

Oh my. Everyday, I can only see my dad in the morning and in the night. Ha. Now, there is no combi in my pooping. One time and that's it, unlike four combos last time. :) For my maths lesson, I am learning to 7 dots now. More to come, I guess... On Friday, I'll still be going to the Polyclinic to have the jaundice test again. Apparently, I have undergone another blood test. This time is to confirm whether is the jaundice is really due to breast milk or is it due to my blood. Really hope that my level will go down to 90! Otherwise, I'll get tanner and tanner each day... from the tanning I get every early morning 7am...

Update on Jaundice: 150. Decreased from the previous reading. According to the doctor, I am in the safe level below 100. Hope that next monday can reach that level. ------------ On Tuesday, my dad's cell group member came over and she passed us her nephews' clothings (all are very nice) but they are currently too large for me. Probably when I turn 1 plus or 2, I will get to wear them. :)

Hi Everyone Yesterday, I went to Polyclinic to see my jaundice level again... Guess what?? I am now 3.5kg! So fast right?? Within a short span of 11 days, I increased my weight to 3.5kg. However, for my Jaundice level, it is 175... Up actually. Its like the stock market.. going up and going down... But I am very determined that it will have a stock crash soon... :) For my father, he also had jaundice when he was young... and lasted for 7 days. Hope mine will be of shorter period.. Pray for me my friends...

Video of my head being cleaned. Well actually, just to let you guys know.. during the first 2-3 weeks of a baby, there is no need to use soap/shampoo on the head actually. Cleaning by warm water is good enough because by using soap/shampoo, it may dry the baby's skin as well as making it sensitive. Both my parents have not yet physically bathed me yet. But I really enjoy the bath every morning, 9am by my confinement auntie. Ha..

Hi! Today is my 9th day!! Today went again to polyclinic. And the jaundice level is 154. Really hope that the level will go below 100. Actually, now, I begin to sleep more in the night, unlike the first few days of my life! :) In the afternoon, my parents would let me see black dots. What is it?? Ha. It is actually to stimulate my brain and this is amazing. My eyes follow where the dot goes! So funny. This is actually to start my counting regime, or rather maths lesson. Ha. Today, I progressed to two dots!

Hi Everyone!! I am back at home finally!! So happy because I can get to sleep on my parent's bed and drink breast milk! Ha.. And I love to smile when I'm asleep... this is so amazing. Just find that through the photolight procedure, it made my skin slightly dry. But its ok because this can be recovered and it is normal for babies. Just need to let the skin peel off by itself will be self sufficient. Yup! Below are my 'suntanning' pictures... My eyes are covered so as to protect them...

Oh, and I'm not the only one there actually...

But all who were there are all chinese.

Apparently Chinese have the highest incidence of Jaundice.

Today, my father came and brought the bottled breast milk to me. And my mum came and collect me home...

Hi. Today I am still in the hospital because my jaundice level is still quite high...at 273. Today is also the first time that I really drank breast milk from my mum! Ha... And for the previous few days, it was colostrum that I was drinking. :) I really hope that I can go home tomorrow because my parents are missing me so much!

This morning, I took a bath and I was so super hungry!

Well, this is picture of me after I bathed. I am very hungry!

And I tell you. When a baby like me is hungry, I mean I really need the food NOW! NOW and this means no waiting!!! ------------------------------ Later in the afternoon, my mother and grandma found that I was slightly yellowish. We went to a nearby clinic and my dad picked us up via a cab. My grandma is very good. She really took her best effort to prevent my eyes from contacting the sun. So she covered me with clean nappy cloth... So good right... The clinic doctor said I should be placed in the heating rays to make my skin colour back to normal. Then, I am warded to KK Hospital at around 5pm due to my skin being yellow. So my parents, with my grandparents went to KK Hospital and everything was normal. No fever, just that the jaundice level is high...271. When I was discharged on 16th of August, my skin was slightly yellow actually, level 124. Doctor did a blood test on me and said I was free to be discharged. :) But who knows the jaundice came back....

Before I was left alone in the ward, I suddenly opened my eyes and looked innocently at my parents... And my dad's heart is so touched...

I must recover from jaundice ASAP. Just to let you know that us, Asians, are prone to jaundice at the first few days of birth (usually 3rd day onwards). And this is because of our genes makeup.

But too high levels is dangerous as it may affect the brain, especially those level above 300. This is very dangerous...

Tomorrow, I'll be seeing my parents again....

Hi Everyone!

I am Josh and I am born on 15th August 2009 at 0400hours, SGH by Asso Prof Tay Sun Kuie.

My mum, Eve is amazing. She gave birth to me naturally, without any epidural, without any laughing gas, without any painkillers! I really give a hat to her to actually go through more than 9 months ( to be exact, 9 months and 2 days).

The labour was 4 hours and this is really thanking god for the first labour! The nurses around there were unbelieved that someone like my mum can actually go through a labour without any medication. Just for the sake of me. :)

So my viewers, do thank your mum for actually giving birth to you, going through the pain and the suffering.. Everything is worth it.

Early in the morning, at 10am... My dad, grandma and great grandma came and visited me and my mum :)
